European Parliament to Host Hearing on “Europe’s leadership in fusion energy”
On Wednesday, February 5 in Brussels, the European Parliament will host a public hearing to discuss “Europe’s leadership in fusion energy.” The hearing will be hosted by MEP Hidlegard Bentele (EPP, Germany) and MEP Pascal Arimont (EPP, Belgium). FIA EU Director Cyrille Mai Thanh will join to give a presentation on the status of the fusion industry and developments on commercialization. Other speakers include representatives from FIA member companies Marvel Fusion, Proxima Fusion, Novatron, and Eni; as well as representatives from the European Commission, Iter Organization, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Fusion for Energy.
The hearing will discuss the state of fusion research and innovation, public funding and private investment in fusion, latest developments in commercialization, and explore appropriate regulatory frameworks for fusion. With the European Commission planning to adopt an EU-wide Fusion Strategy later this year, the European Parliament hearing is important and timely. It is critical for the EU to ensure a leading global position as the race to commercial fusion deployment accelerates.
Below is the hearing agenda. The deadline to register to join the hearing in person is January 30. For those not in Brussels, the livestream is here.
