FIA and Clean Air Task Force Publish Principles on Codes and Standards

In partnership with the Clean Air Task Force, the Fusion Industry Association published a one-pager outlining its principles for fusion codes and standards. As fusion moves towards deployment, it is critical that codes and standards ensure safe deployment while enabling innovation.

Codes and standards should reflect the risks of fusion facilities – not requirements designed for other technologies. A risk-informed approach means using existing industrial standards where appropriate, adding new requirements when necessary, and ensuring standards support both safety and innovation. It’s also important that codes and standards evolve alongside the technology. Commercial fusion is developing rapidly, and standards should be informed by operational experience and remain flexible enough to accommodate the array of technical approaches.

As the industry grows, continued collaboration between fusion developers, suppliers, standards organizations, and regulators will help create practical, technology-neutral standards that support safe, efficient commercialization.
