Overview of the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Manager for Public Policy to join our team. This role will be crucial in shaping FIA’s advocacy efforts, managing direct outreach to government bodies, prioritizing and organizing the membership and the Association’s leadership direct engagement with policymakers, and coordinating across the Association. The successful candidate will help drive fusion energy’s presence in the clean energy policy landscape by building relationships, educating stakeholders, and advocating for key fusion-related initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- U.S. Government Outreach: Manage FIA’s direct outreach to congressional offices, regulatory bodies, government leadership and federal agencies to promote policies that support fusion energy development. Build and maintain strong relationships with key policymakers, staffers, and committees.
- Advocacy Coordination: Support the FIA leadership and staff in organizing and executing advocacy strategies, including meetings, briefings, and coalition-building efforts. Ensure that membership interactions with Capitol Hill and other stakeholders are aligned with FIA’s priorities and objectives.
- Legislative Tracking and Analysis: Monitor, analyze, and report on relevant legislation, hearings, and regulatory developments that impact the fusion industry. Keep FIA leadership and members informed of emerging policy trends and opportunities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison between FIA and external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, and other advocacy organizations. Represent FIA at policy meetings, industry coalitions, and conferences.
- Policy Development and Messaging: Collaborate with FIA’s leadership, membership, and communications team to develop policy positions, briefing materials, and advocacy messaging. Ensure that FIA’s policy objectives are clearly communicated to stakeholders in a compelling and effective manner.
- Database Support: Build and keep updated a comprehensive outreach database to track and maintain FIA’s relationships.
- Event Support: Assist in planning and executing policy-related events, including briefings, roundtables, and member fly-ins. Ensure that these events highlight the strategic importance of fusion energy and foster meaningful engagement with decision-makers.
- Global Coordination: When necessary, support the FIA’s global engagement by ensuring that advocacy efforts are coordinated and harmonized around the world, especially through FIA’s efforts in London and Brussels.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in government relations, public policy, or advocacy, preferably in the clean energy, technology, or scientific sectors.
- Understanding and experience in direct Capitol Hill outreach, including building relationships with members of Congress, their staff, and key committees.
- Strong understanding of legislative processes and familiarity with clean energy policy issues.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into accessible, compelling advocacy messages.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects, while also working collaboratively as part of a small, mission-driven team.
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, communications, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
Location
This position is based in Washington, DC. Remote work will not be considered, but the FIA provides a flexible workplace and appropriate work arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary is expected to be $55,000 – $80,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Health care is included.
