FIA Supports Renomination of David Wright as Commissioner on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)

Ensuring Regulatory Certainty, From the FIA

On June 20, the Fusion Industry Association (FIA) sent a letter to Senator Capito, Chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, and Senator Whitehouse, Ranking Member, in support of the re-nomination of Commissioner David Wright to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Given the key role that Commissioner Wright has played in leading the agency to understand and appropriately regulate fusion energy, the FIA is confident he will continue to ensure the proper implementation of the Atomic Energy Act, the ADVANCE Act, and other operative legislation on fusion energy, working with Congress, his fellow Commissioners, and the Agreement States. In this role, he can help the NRC perform its function of protecting health and safety, solidifying the United States as a leader in fusion energy. If confirmed by the Senate, FIA anticipates he will continue his leadership on these key issues at the Commission.

The FIA supports the renomination of David Wright as a member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. We appreciate the Committee’s commitment to fusion and look forward to working with the Committee on this and other issues in the future.
