Members of European Parliament Call For Bold and Actionable EU Fusion Strategy
On May 27, Members of European Parliament (MEPs) sent a letter to European Commissioners Dan Jørgensen and Ekaterina Zaharieva urging the pending EU Fusion Strategy to be delivered urgently and accompanied by a clear Action Plan, concrete timelines, and funding commitments. Coordinated by the FIA, the signatories include MEPs Pascal Arimont, Hildegard Bentele, Kris Van Dijck, Matej Tonin, Nicola Procaccini, Andrea Wechsler, Ondrej Krutilek, Angelika Niebler, Susana Solís Pérez, Bart Groothuis, and Christophe Grudler.
The letter comes as other governments around the world are accelerating commercial fusion deployment efforts – allocating policy and record amounts of resources to lead and secure the supply chains and talent that accompany it. MEPs note that “the race is on, and Europe cannot afford to watch from the sidelines.”
MEPs urge the Strategy must deliver on:
- A credible pathway to fusion commercialization
- Faster and predictable permitting for first projects
- Match ambition with investment
- Build a resilient European fusion ecosystem
- Integrate fusion into Europe’s energy security strategy
Fusion is transitioning from research to industrial opportunity and is becoming a strategic choice. Others are acting fast, aligning policy and capital to capture its value. What is Europe doing?
