Members of European Parliament Launch Call for Action at FIA Fusion Hearing

From the FIA, Partnering with Governments

On 27 January 2026, the Fusion Industry Association (FIA) convened policymakers, industry leaders, and investors at the European Parliament for the high-level public hearing event “Fusion Energy in Europe: Call for Action.” The event marked a decisive moment for Europe’s fusion community, as political attention converged with growing industrial readiness.

Against the backdrop of the forthcoming EU Fusion Strategy, the hearing underscored a shared message: fusion has reached a turning point, and Europe must now move decisively from ambition to implementation. European fusion companies are scaling, private investment is mobilising, and industrial capabilities are aligning toward deployment. What is now required is clear political prioritisation and delivery-focused policy frameworks.

At the heart of the event was the launch of a Call for Action (below) by center-right Members of the European Parliament, including Hildegard Bentele, Pascal Arimont, Tsvetelina Penkova, Christophe Grudler, Kris Van Dijck, Matej Tonin, Inese Vaidere, and Jana Nagyova, supported by industry, setting out concrete recommendations for how Europe can secure leadership in commercial fusion energy. The declaration calls for fusion to be embedded in Europe’s strategic priorities, followed by a robust EU Fusion Action Plan with clear milestones toward first-of-a-kind demonstration plants, predictable and proportionate regulation distinct from fission, and mechanisms that enable first movers through strong public-private partnerships.

The discussions and the Call for Action send a strong signal: fusion could be Europe’s success story, a strategic industrial opportunity for Europe’s competitiveness, energy security, and long-term resilience. FIA will continue to work with European institutions and Member States to ensure this momentum translates into projects on the ground and a thriving European fusion ecosystem.
