European Parliament Hosts First-of-a-Kind Fusion Public Hearing

On 5 February, the European Parliament hosted a landmark hearing on Europe’s leadership in fusion energy, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers to assess the current landscape and discuss the steps needed to ensure Europe remains at the global forefront of bringing fusion to the grid. FIA Director for Europe Cyrille Mai Thanh joined to give an overview of the global fusion industry and outline key areas of opportunity for European policy.

European Parliament to Host Hearing on “Europe’s leadership in fusion energy”

On Wednesday, February 5 in Brussels, the European Parliament will host a public hearing to discuss “Europe’s leadership in fusion energy.” The hearing will be hosted by MEP Hidlegard Bentele (EPP, Germany) and MEP Pascal Arimont (EPP, Belgium). FIA EU Director Cyrille Mai Thanh will join to give a presentation on the status of the fusion industry and developments on commercialization. Other speakers include representatives from FIA member companies Marvel Fusion, Proxima Fusion, Novatron, and Eni; as well as representatives from the European Commission, Iter Organization, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Fusion for Energy.

Chris Wright Discusses Fusion Energy During Hearing to Consider His Nomination as U.S. Secretary of Energy

The hearing to consider the nomination of Chris Wright to be Secretary of Energy happened on Wednesday, January 15th, in the U.S. Senate. Wright is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be Secretary of Energy, and would lead the Department of Energy (DOE) if sworn in. Wright is the CEO of Liberty Energy, an oilfield services firm, and studied fusion energy at MIT. He brings both an engineering and entrepreneurial background to the position.

U.S. Senate Hosts Hearing on Fusion Development and Commercialization

On September 19, the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources held a full committee hearing to examine fusion energy technology development and commercialization efforts. Witnesses included Dr. Jean Paul Allain, Associate Director of the Office of Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) at the U.S. Department of Energy; Jackie Siebens, Director of Public Affairs at FIA member Helion Energy; and Dr. Patrick White, Research Director at the Nuclear Innovation Alliance.
