Fusion Industry Association appoints UK Director
On July 1, the Fusion Industry Association appointed Dr Nick Walkden as UK Director.
While the FIA has had UK-based members since its inception, and many non-UK members have engaged in direct partnerships with the UKAEA and other organizations in the UK.
For decades, the United Kingdom has been a leader in the science and development of fusion energy. In recent years, it has established itself as a key leader in building a fusion future, both by planning for pilot plants and building the regulatory regime to support fusion energy innovation. As the unified voice of the fusion industry, the Fusion Industry Association is excited to expand its presence in the UK in support of our members and the wider fusion ecosystem. Nick brings with him extensive experience in fusion science and technology, policy, and strategy, developed in both the public and private sectors of the fusion industry. As UK Director Nick will be responsible for growing and managing the FIA’s presence in the UK, implementing the FIA’s strategy and advocacy in the context of the UK’s fusion ecosystem, and connecting with fusion stakeholders in industry, political leaders, press, national laboratories and universities, non-profits, and regulatory bodies.
“I’m honoured and excited to be taking up the role of UK Director for the FIA. In many ways I feel that my career to date has been a perfect lead-in to this role, and I can’t wait to get started. Above all, I am deeply passionate about fusion and the absolute necessity of its development as a clean, sustainable, safe energy source for my son and all our future generations. In this role I look forward to advocating, on behalf of the members of the FIA, for the continued and accelerated development of fusion energy.” Nick Walkden, FIA UK Director
