IAEA Launches World Fusion Outlook
During the 2023 International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Fusion Energy Conference, IAEA Director General Rafael Marino Grossi launched the World Fusion Outlook, a new publication that details the state of fusion energy research and development worldwide.
The report aims to provide a reference for global technology development status and emphasizes the potential of fusion energy to be a game-changer for climate goals and energy accessibility. It notes the steps needed to achieve net zero goals by way of fusion at scale, urging a continued increase of public-private partnerships, private and public funding, and regulatory and policy geared towards fusion acceleration.
The IAEA pledges their commitment to continue to collaborate with and support the private and public sectors: “As an international organization, the IAEA will continue to work together with countries, other organizations and the fast growing fusion industry across the globe to tackle the scientific and technological challenges and help deliver the talent pipeline, nurture the supply chain, establish best knowledge management practices and engage with the public to make fusion energy a reality.” The Fusion Industry Association stands ready to work with IAEA towards accelerating fusion commercialization efforts.
