Japan Funds Fusion Following Release of National Strategy
On October 13, Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) announced the first round of federal funding to fusion firms, following Japan’s launch of a national strategy geared towards fusion acceleration earlier in the year.
Two out of four awards went to fusion developers, FIA members Kyoto Fusioneering and Helical Fusion, and two went to supplier companies, LiSTie Corporation and MiRESSO Corporation. The funding marks the latest step in Japan’s push for fusion acceleration. Their national strategy released in April emphasizes the need to combine public and private efforts towards commercialization, and lay the foundation for a fusion industry that supports both fusion developers and suppliers.
