FIA Launches 2024 Global Fusion Industry Report

The fusion industry has now attracted over $7.1bn of investment, according to an annual report by the Fusion Industry Association (FIA), with over $900 million of new funds backing the technology since last year. As part of that, total public funding increased by 57% in the last 12 months to $426m, showing governments increasingly see public-private partnerships as central to making commercial fusion a reality.

German Hearing on Charting a Fusion Regulatory Framework

On Wednesday, July 3, the German Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment held a hearing aimed to chart a course toward ensuring an informed legal environment that will accelerate fusion power deployment in Germany and across the European Union. The hearing was centered around two motions: “For a pragmatic, innovation-friendly legal framework for fusion power plants in Germany and Europe” – a legislative motion put forward by the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, and “Specialist initiative for fusion research” – put forward by the AFD. The discussion is timely as Germany seeks to secure its leadership position in fusion by ensuring a regulatory system that keeps pace with technological advancements.

On July 2, the Fusion Industry Association launched our 2024 Supply Chain Report as an updated version from last year. The report surveys fusion developers and suppliers to get a snapshot of where the supply chain stands as the fusion industry grows. Designed to capture and analyze trends, challenges, and opportunities within the industry, this report serves as a resource to better understand the web of supply and demand in fusion energy, and to help guide investment and policy strategy to support the accelerating fusion industry.

Fusion Industry Association and The Fusion Cluster Lay Out Strategic Priorities Ahead of UK Election

The United Kingdom is a world leader in fusion energy – a source of potentially unlimited strategically secure and affordable, low-carbon energy. Once commercialised, fusion is perhaps the ultimate energy source: zero carbon at the point of generation, energy dense, and with abundant fuels. FIA Launches Commercializing Fusion Energy Paper

The global race to commercial fusion power is on. On June 24, the Fusion Industry Association launched our Commercializing Fusion Energy paper, laying out the policy incentives that will attract and accelerate the fusion industry in nations that aim to lead in commercial deployment. This paper is intended to be used as a tool by policymakers when considering the most effective policy positions to implement.

Canadian Roadmap For National Fusion Energy Strategy

On June 11, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) hosted Fusion Day 2024 to unveil its roadmap to a national fusion energy strategy, aimed to position Canada as a global leader in fusion. The roadmap – Fusion Energy for Canada: A Forward-Looking Vision and Call for Action – calls on the government to design, fund, and implement a national fusion strategy. As the global race to commercial fusion deployment accelerates, the time is now. Without strategic national investment at a globally competitive level, Canada risks falling behind and failing to capitalize on economic, social, geopolitical, and decarbonization opportunities that commercial fusion unlocks.
